- Your comparison isn't correct.
-
- OS/2 2.0, 2.1, 2.11, and 3.0 are *all* 32-bit, pre-emptively multitasking
- systems that support threading and have an in-built object model that
- underlies the user interface.
-
- DOS and Win 3.1 have *none* of those things. Win95 still lacks real
- object support and the 16-bit UI and graphics engine are a real impediment
- to proper multitasking unless you choose your apps *very* carefully.
-
- In other words, a 4 year old OS/2 app is still superior both techinically
- and in capability (with respect to the OS) than even the latest Win95 app.
- More to the point - you can still run those 4 year old apps - with a
- few exceptions.
-
- These operating system 'qualities' have been in OS/2 for 4 years. Win95
- is still working towards them - and no previous version of DOS or Windows
- could provide them.
-
- This is a BIG difference.

-
- But NT is such a small market, it is attracting developers for client/server
- and other high-end business aplications - much has OS/2 done for years.
- No one is writing consumer apps for NT. OS/2 has more commercial games than
- NT has.

- >hmmm......)
-
- You're working towards making the usual mistake on this issue. OS/2's
- success does not preclude Lotus or anyone else fomr wirting software for
- Win95. The proof of this statement is that Lotus are also writing an
- updated SmartSuite for OS/2 - with a minimum of equivalent function
- with Win95. In fact, support for OS/2's advanced features should
- make the SmartSuite/2 the preferred option over the more restricted
- Win95 version.
-
- No danger of MS Office matching OS/2's OO functionality as OLE just
- isn't there as a coherent object model. Maybe in 1998 with Cairo.....

-
- That other stuff works fine on my OS/2 system, too.
